For many decades, television and data transmission have followed parallel paths which were completely independent of one another. Today, however, we are living in the age of digital TV, and the distinction between data and television has virtually disappeared. What’s more, the range of digital television has been extended for mobile reception with the development of standards such as DVB-H or T-DMB.

This book deals with all present-day digital TV transmission methods, i.e. MPEG, DVD, ATSC and ISDB-T. The discussion is focused on dealing with these subjects in as practical a way as possible. Although mathematical formulations are used, the mathematical ballast will be kept to a minimum for the practical field engineer. The book also contains chapters dealing with basic concepts such as digital modulation. A major emphasis is placed on the measuring techniques used on the various digital TV signals. Necessary and appropriate measuring techniques are discussed in detail and practical examples and hints are provided.
